Creative Concept

In Chunking Express, the character He Qiwu experiences a breakup and he decides to buy a can of pineapple that expires on May 1st everyday for one month. Pineapple is his ex-girlfriend's favorite fruit while May 1st is his birthday. The expiration date arrives but He Qiwu didn't get his ex-girlfriend back. He starts to think that everything in the world will expire someday, nothing will last forever.

Using some elements that stood out from the movie, I want to demonstrate the process of objects shadows turning in the direction of time to show expiration. Incorporating the different tone of the sky/sunlight in a day starting from morning and ending in night to show the passing of time. Objects like heels, stuffed animals, sunglasses, pineapple cans, electric fan, lipstick, corded phone are used to complete the shoot.

Working Process

PhotoshotLightroomPhotoshop

Beginning with a digital camera, I captured images of the objects alongside their shadows cast in various directions. Subsequently, I imported these photos into Lightroom to fine-tune their color and tone until achieving the desired aesthetic. Upon reaching the desired look, I employed Photoshop to incorporate stylized text credits seamlessly into the composition.
